Folk Dance Group “TENT” with the ensemble for folk music was founded in 1979. in the city of Obrenovac (near Belgrade). The initiators were a few enthusaists from the power plant “Nikola Tesla”, popularly called “TENT”. With 1650 MW of installed power, it was the largest thermal power plant in former Yugoslavia at the moment when it was built. Today, in power plant "Nikola Tesla”  there is the highest concentration of energetic capacities in Serbia. This is one of the most reliable parts of Serbian power system.

From the foundation in 1979, members of Folk Dance Group “TENT” have performed at many festivals and their talents were rewarded . Folk Dance Group have scored many successes in all international tours winning numerous prizes, medals and diplomas.

Presently, members  contributes to the reputation and affirmation of the Folk Dance Group “TENT”, referring to the exceptionally remarkable inheritance of artists from former generations who have set high artistic standards of performances by their knowledge and talents.In edition to activities at home stages and halls, the group have had greatest and impressive successes at reputed international festivals: Malta, Belgium, France, Bulgary, Ukraine, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Canarian Island,  Tunisia, Russia, Portugal…

The Group is consisted of 300 members: dancers, singers and players.

The dance section of Folk Group “TENT” is organised on three levels:

·                     THE FIRST ENSEMBLE OF FOLK DANCE (the performing one)

·                     THE SECOND AND THE THIRD ENSEMBLE OF FOLK DANCE (the preparatory one)

·                     THE SCHOOL OF FOLK  DANCE  (for the children)

The accompanying orchestra and the group of singers music is mainly based on folk music motives and songs.

Our rehearsals are regularly kept twice a week in two-hour sessions, sometimes even three or four times a week.

Our  repertoire covers cultural heritage of all parts of Yugoslav regions and contributes to the cultural progress of its community and advances the cultural life as well. The artists perform ethnically inspired dances and authentic folk melodies. The work of  the Folk Dance Group  is chiefly based on choreographic expression, progressive change, and first of all,on the development of folk dance.

Colorful costumes, intriguing melodies and complex rhythms clearly illustrate richness of folk artin various regions.

Folk Dance Group and Folk Music Orchestra perform a full-evening program consisting of  appealing traditional songs and dances from all parts of Serbia and the Balkans. The dances we selected represent the traits of various nations through musical and scenic performance. The ancient movements and gestures are synchronously and artistically  combined into choreographies. Most of the choreographies were created by Mr Srboljub Ninkovic.
